Course 1: For teachers year 1-5
The course comprises two workshops (3 hours each), two Wednesdays in a row. It targets primary school mathematics teachers in year 1-5, special education teachers and school leaders who want to learn more about how to use the Singapore approach in teaching mathematics.
Workshop 1: Differentiated Instruction for Mixed Ability Learners
Date: Wednesday January 19, 2022
Time: 14.00 – 17.00
‘One size does not fit all’. Differentiated instruction is of paramount importance in a mixed-ability classroom. This online workshop aims to help participants understand models of differentiated teaching and learning, use strategies to differentiate content, process and product, and observe and assess the quality of children’s thinking and learning. Dr Yeap will model several anchor tasks that can provide differentiated instruction to address issues and questions related to the topic.
Workshop 2: Using Bar Models in Problem Solving
Date: Wednesday January 26, 2022
Time: 14.00 – 17.00
This online workshop aims to help participants understand the rationale of model method (bar models) as a critical heuristic in problem solving. Participants will be introduced to the use of bar models to solve word problems across grade levels. Dr Yeap will model the teaching of word problems and discuss issues and difficulties related to the teaching of word problems using model method.
